1967 (Aug 27) - Brian Epstein Dies

British music entrepreneur and the manager of The Beatles, Brian Epstein was found dead, locked in a bedroom at his London home. A coroner’s inquest concluded that Epstein died from an overdose of the sleeping pill Carbitrol. He also managed several other artists including Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Cilla Black and The Remo Four. The first contract between The Beatles and Epstein was auctioned in London in 2008, and was sold for £240,000.

1992 (Aug 27) - 'A Day In The Life' Lyrics Auctioned

John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to The Beatles song ‘A Day In The Life’ from Sgt. Pepper sold in an auction at Sotheby’s London for $100,000 (£56,600). The lyrics were put up for sale again in March 2006 by Bonhams in New York. Sealed bids were opened on 7 March 2006 and offers started at about $2 million. The lyric sheet was auctioned again by Sotheby’s in June 2010 when it was purchased by an anonymous American buyer who paid $1,200,000 (£810,000).

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1964 (Aug 28) - Beatles Smoke Pot For The First Time

The Beatles smoke pot for the first time, which is supplied by Bob Dylan, who joins the band after one of their concerts in New York state. Dylan is surprised they haven’t tried it before, as he thought they sang “I get high” in their song “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” when it was really “I can’t hide.”

1966 (Aug 28) - Beatles Play Dodger Stadium

Nearing the end of their final tour of America, The Beatles performed one show at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California, before a crowd of 45,000. The Beatles’ attempt to escape from the stadium in an armored truck is thwarted when the main gate was found to be locked, and The Beatles had to spend two hours in the back of the truck before they could leave the stadium.

1968 (Aug 28) - Beatles Work on 'Dear Prudence'

Working at Trident Studios, London, The Beatles started recording a new John Lennon song ‘Dear Prudence’. They built the song instrument by instrument, utilizing the 8-track equipment at Trident. John and George played guitars, while Paul played drums to compensate for Ringo Starr who had quit The Beatles on August 22.

1969 (Aug 28) - Mary McCartney Born

Mary McCartney, a daughter to Paul and Linda McCartney Mary was named after Paul’s mother (who he mentioned in the song ‘Let It Be’).

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

2012 (Aug 28) - Ringo World's Richest Drummer

Celebrity Net Worth named Ringo Starr as the world’s richest drummer, with an estimated fortune of $300 million. Phil Collins was ranked second with $250 million, former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was third with $225 million, the Eagles’ Don Henley came in forth with $200 million and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich was fifth with $175 million. Also making the top ten were U2’s Larry Mullen and The Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts.

1959 (Aug 29) - Beatles Play Opening Night of 'The Casbah'

The Quarry Men (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ken Brown) performed at the Casbah Coffee Club, Hayman’s Green, West Derby, Liverpool. This is the opening night of a new teen club in a large Victorian house that is owned by Mrs. Mona Best and the first of seven straight Saturdays that The Quarry Men play here. The band shared one microphone connected to the house P.A.
