1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1969 (Mar 16) - Paul and Linda Fly to America

Married just four days, Paul and Linda fly to America for a three week visit.

1972 (Mar 16) - John Lennon Appeals To Immigration

John Lennon lodged an appeal with the US immigration office in New York, after he was served with deportation orders arising from his 1968 cannabis possession conviction.

1979 (Mar 16) - CBS Airs 'Wings Over the World'

CBS airs the Wings Over the World documentary. It chronicles the adventures of Paul’s band Wings on their 1975-76 tour.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1944 (Mar 17) - Pattie Boyd Born

Pattie Boyd is born in Taunton, Somerset, England. She would later marry George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Clapton’s song ‘Layla’ was inspired by her.

1967 (Mar 17) - Finishing Touches on 'She's Leaving Home'

Working at Abbey Road studios in London,  The Beatles finished the recording of ‘She’s Leaving Home’ after adding backing vocals to the track.  Harpist Sheila Bromberg who was part of the string section on the track became the first woman to play on a Beatles recording.

1979 (Mar 17) - Bee Gees Tie Beatles #1 Mark


The Bee Gees went to No.1 on the UK album chart with their fifteenth studio album release Spirits Having Flown, the group’s first album after their collaboration on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The album’s first three tracks were released as singles and all reached No.1 in the US, giving the Bee Gees an unbroken run of six US chart-toppers and tying a record set by The Beatles.
