1966 (Aug 28) - Beatles Play Dodger Stadium

Nearing the end of their final tour of America, The Beatles performed one show at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California, before a crowd of 45,000. The Beatles’ attempt to escape from the stadium in an armored truck is thwarted when the main gate was found to be locked, and The Beatles had to spend two hours in the back of the truck before they could leave the stadium.

1968 (Aug 28) - Beatles Work on 'Dear Prudence'

Working at Trident Studios, London, The Beatles started recording a new John Lennon song ‘Dear Prudence’. They built the song instrument by instrument, utilizing the 8-track equipment at Trident. John and George played guitars, while Paul played drums to compensate for Ringo Starr who had quit The Beatles on August 22.

1969 (Aug 28) - Mary McCartney Born

Mary McCartney, a daughter to Paul and Linda McCartney Mary was named after Paul’s mother (who he mentioned in the song ‘Let It Be’).

2012 (Aug 28) - Ringo World's Richest Drummer

Celebrity Net Worth named Ringo Starr as the world’s richest drummer, with an estimated fortune of $300 million. Phil Collins was ranked second with $250 million, former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was third with $225 million, the Eagles’ Don Henley came in forth with $200 million and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich was fifth with $175 million. Also making the top ten were U2’s Larry Mullen and The Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts.

1959 (Aug 29) - Beatles Play Opening Night of 'The Casbah'

The Quarry Men (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ken Brown) performed at the Casbah Coffee Club, Hayman’s Green, West Derby, Liverpool. This is the opening night of a new teen club in a large Victorian house that is owned by Mrs. Mona Best and the first of seven straight Saturdays that The Quarry Men play here. The band shared one microphone connected to the house P.A.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1964 (Aug 29) - Guitar Sales Through The Roof

In a clear case of rock and roll being saved by the British Invasion, Billboard magazine notes that guitar sales are the highest they’ve been since the advent of Elvis Presley.

1965 (Aug 29) - Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl! (Tickets 3 Bucks!)

During a US tour The Beatles appeared at the Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, California. Tickets cost $3.00. The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl became a live album released in May 1977, compiled from two live performances at the Hollywood Bowl during August 1964 and August 1965.

1966 (Aug 29) - Beatles At Candlestick Park

The Beatles played their last concert before a paying audience, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California to a sold-out crowd of 25,000. John and Paul, knowing what the fans do not (that this will be the last concert ever) bring cameras on stage and take pictures between songs. During this tour, The Beatles have not played a single song from their latest album, Little Richard’s ‘Long Tall Sally’.

1967 (Aug 29) - Brian Epstein Family Funeral

Brian Epstein’s funeral. None of the Beatles attend.
