1968 (Oct 8) - Beatles in Studio

The Beatles record “Long, Long, Long,” “I’m So Tired,” and “The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill.”

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2012 (Oct 8) - EMI Recalls Anniversary edition of 'Love Me Do'

Record label bosses at EMI recalled a vinyl, anniversary edition of The Beatles’ hit single ‘Love Me Do’ after discovering they had accidentally pressed a version that included session musician Andy White playing drums instead of Ringo Starr. Copies of the disc featuring the wrong version were reportedly selling on eBay.

1940 (Oct 9) - John Lennon Born

John Lennon singer, songwriter, guitarist, The Beatles who have sold over 20m singles in the UK (1962-1970), and scored more UK & US No.1 albums than any other group. Their 1967 Sgt. Pepper is the UK’s biggest selling album ever. In 1990 Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ was played simultaneously in 130 countries to commemorate what would’ve been Lennon’s 50th birthday. He was shot dead in New York by Mark Chapman on 8th December 1980.

1964 (Oct 9) - Beatles Begin Month Long Tour

The first night of a month long tour opens in Bradford at the Gaumont Cinema.

1965 (Oct 9) - 'Yesterday' #1 in the US

The Beatles started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with the Paul McCartney ballad ‘Yesterday’ giving the group their tenth US No.1. The track was not released as a single in the UK until 1976.

1968 (Oct 9) - Beatles 'Do It In The Road'

The Beatles record “Long, Long, Long” and “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?”

1969 (Oct 9) - Carpenters Release 'Ticket To Ride'

The Carpenters release Offering, later released as Ticket to Ride, featuring a ballad version of the Beatles’ tune.

1975 (Oct 9) - Sean Lennon Born

Sean Taro Ono Lennon was born, the only child of John Lennon by Yoko Ono. John Lennon retired from music for five years to become a house-husband. Sean went on to become a singer, songwriter, musician and actor.

1985 (Oct 9) - Yoko Ono Opens Strawberry Fields at Central Park

Marking what would have been John Lennon’s 45th birthday, Yoko Ono formally opened the three and a half acre garden at the Strawberry Fields site in New York’s Central Park. The area was planted with trees, shrubs and flowers gathered from across the world and with a $1m donation from Yoko.
