John Lennon’s cover of ‘Stand By Me’ reaches #20 in the US.

1976 (Apr 26) - 'Wings At The Speed Of Sound' #1 in the US

‘Wings At The Speed Of Sound’ went to No.1 on the US album chart. Paul McCartney’s fifth No.1 album after The Beatles became his most successful American chart album, spending seven unconsecutive weeks at No.1. The album featured the hits ‘Let ‘Em In’ and ‘Silly Love Songs’.

1978 (Apr 26) - 'Ringo' TV Special Airs on NBC

Ringo’s TV specia Ringo airs on NBC.

1984 (Apr 26) - 'The Beatles' Statue Unveiled in Liverpool

Mike McCartney unveiled the £40,000 statue of The Beatles by John Doubleday at the new £8 million Cavern Walks shopping center in Liverpool, England. John’s first wife, Cynthia, was also in attendance.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1966 (Apr 27) - The Beatles Work on 'I'm Only Sleeping'

The Beatles started recording the new John Lennon song ‘I’m Only Sleeping’ at Abbey Road studios London, England. The song features the then-unique sound of a reversed guitar duet played by George Harrison. It was released two months earlier in the United States on the album Yesterday And Today and did not feature on the original US version of Revolver .

1970 (Apr 27) - Lennon Lithographs Ruled OK for Viewing

John Lennon’s explicit ‘Bag One’ lithographs are returned to the London Arts Gallery exhibition. A High Court judge has ruled them ‘unlikely to deprave or corrupt’.
