1964 (Feb 25) - 'Can't Buy Me Love' Recording Finished

The Beatles finished recording their next single ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, at Abbey Road studios, London, (they had first recorded the song on 29 January 1964 at Path Marconi Studios in Paris). They also recorded the B-side, ‘You Can’t Do That’ and another new song ‘I Should Have Known Better’.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2015 (Feb 25) - LA Celebrates George's 72nd Birthday

On what would have been George Harrison’s 72nd birthday, a new tree was planted in his memory in Griffith Park Los Angeles to replace one that was earlier killed by a beetle infestation. This new yew tree had been chosen to replace the original, as it was far less susceptible to insects.

1964 (Feb 26) - Beatles in Studio on 'You Can't Do That'


The Beatles worked on the final mixes for ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘You Can’t Do That’ tracks. The single, which was released the following month, topped the charts all over the world and ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ became the Beatles’ fourth UK No.1 and their third single to sell over a million copies in the UK.

1966 (Feb 26) - 'Rubber Soul' #1 in the US

The Beatles’ ‘Rubber Soul’ becomes the seventh album by the band to go #1 in America.

1970 (Feb 26) - Album 'Hey Jude' US Release

US album release of ‘Hey Jude’ on Capitol.

1971 (Feb 26) - Max Martin Born (Who?)

Max Martin born, Swedish music producer and songwriter. He is the songwiter with the third most No. 1 singles on the charts, behind only Paul McCartney (32) and John Lennon (26). Martin has produced hits for the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding and Pink. In addition he has written or co-written 22 Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hits, most of which he has also produced or co-produced, including Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Maroon 5’s ‘One More Night’, Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ and The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’.

1987 (Feb 26) - 'The White Album' is First Beatles CD Release

The Beatles’ (aka The White Album) becomes the first Beatles album to be released in the new CD format.

2009 (Feb 26) - Unheard Version of 'Revolution 1' Leaked

A 10-minute version of The Beatles ‘Revolution 1’, taped by Yoko, was leaked onto the internet, giving fans a never-before-heard listen of what The White Albumsessions must have been like. Only two copies of the take were made when the song was completed on June 4th, 1968. One copy left the studio with Lennon that day and the other remained behind.
