2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1964 (Aug 11) - Beatles Begin Recording Fourth Album

The Beatles started recording their fourth album (‘Beatles For Sale’, not yet titled), at EMI studios in London, England.

1966 (Aug 11) - John Apologizes for Jesus Remark

At a press conference held at The Astor Towers Hotel in Chicago, John Lennon apologised for his remarks that The Beatles were ‘more popular than Jesus’. Lennon told reporters “Look, I wasn’t saying The Beatles are better than God or Jesus, I said ‘Beatles’ because it’s easy for me to talk about The Beatles. I could have said ‘TV’ or ‘Cinema’, ‘Motorcars’ or anything popular and would have got away with it’’.

1968 (Aug 11) - Apple Records is Launched

The Beatles launch their own record label, Apple.

1969 (Aug 11) - 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' Finished

The Beatles finish recording “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).”

1973 (Aug 11) - McCullough, Seiwell Quit Wings

Rather than join Paul McCartney in traveling to Nigeria to record the band’s latest album, Band On The Run, Henry McCullough and Denny Seiwell both quit Wings, forcing Paul, wife Linda, and Denny Laine to record the album as a trio.

1987 (Aug 11) - Rolling Stone: 'Sgt Pepper' Best Album of Last 20 Years

Rolling Stone magazine declares The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band the best album of the last 20 years.

1960 (Aug 12) - Pete Best Auditions For The Beatles

Pete Best auditioned to become The Silver Beatles’ drummer and was asked to travel to Hamburg in Germany for the bands next set of dates. Before leaving for Hamburg, The Silver Beatles changed their name to simply, “The Beatles”.

1963 (Aug 12) - Beatles Begin A Week at the Odeon Cinema

Beatles begin a a week long residency at the Odeon Cinema, Liandudno. Two shows a night.
