1962 (Apr 7) - Beatles Play Casbah Without George

The Beatles played at the Casbah Coffee Club, Liverpool without George Harrison who was ill. This was the group’s last performance before leaving for their third extended engagement in Hamburg, West Germany.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1966 (Apr 7) - Overdubs for 'Revolver'

Working at Abbey Road studios in London, The Beatles recorded overdubs on the new John Lennon song ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ and the new Paul McCartney song ‘Got to Get You Into My Life’ for the forthcoming Revolver album.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1970 (Apr 7) - John Lennon #3 in US; Beatles #1

On this week’s US Top 5 singles chart; No.5, ‘Bridge Over Trouble Water’ by Simon and Garfunkel, No.4, ‘Spirit In The Sky’, Norman Greenbaum’, No.3, ‘Instant Karma!’ by John Lennon, No.2, ‘ABC’ The Jackson 5 and at No.1, ‘Let It Be’, The Beatles.

1971 (Apr 7) - The Rolling Stones Announce Their Record Label

The Rolling Stones announce their own record label, Rolling Stones Records. They vow to make it a ‘small operaton that they can handle’, citing that they don’t want to suffer the pitfalls of The Beatles’ Apple.

2001 (Apr 7) - Paul Buys Courtney Love's Beverly Hills Home

Paul McCartney bought the four-bedroom Beverly Hills home of Courtney Love for $3.95 million. The gated 1930s house had its own swimming pool and 1.5 acres of land.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1963 (Apr 8) - Julian Lennon Born

Julian Lennon, first son of Beatle John Lennon and the only child of Lennon’s first wife Cynthia Lennon. His godfather was Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. Julian Lennon had the 1991 UK No.6 single ‘Saltwater’. Had a cameo role in the 1995 film ‘Leaving Las Vegas’, as a bartender.
