1988 (Oct 4) - Ringo Enters Rehab

Determined to finally clean his system of the alcohol and drugs he’s been abusing for years, Ringo Starr, along with wife Barbara Bach, flies to Tucson, Arizona, to enter the Sierra Tucson Rehabilitation Clinic. He stays six weeks.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2019 (Oct 4) - 'Abbey Road' Returns to #1 in Britain

The Beatles’ Abbey Road returned to No.1 in the UK, 50 years after it first topped the album charts after the release of an expanded anniversary edition. The feat also sees the album set a record – the gap of 49 years and 252 days since its initial chart-topping run ended in early 1970 is the longest gap before returning to No.1.

1962 (Oct 5) - 'Love Me Do' Released in Britain

The Beatles debut single ‘Love Me Do’ was released in the UK. It spent 26 week’s on the chart peaking at No.17. Beatles producer George Martin has said when ‘Love Me Do’ was released, it was the day the world changed. It is also believed that the first time a Beatles record is played on the radio, it is by Radio Luxembourg. RL was owned by EMI.

1999 (Oct 5) - Paul Releases 'Run Devil Run' in the US

Paul McCartney releases Run Devil Run in the US.

2000 (Oct 5) - 'Top Of The Pops' All Time Singles Poll Released

UK TV show Top Of The Pops issued a Top 40 chart based on singles that had spent the longest time on the UK chart. No.3 was ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra, No.2 ‘She Loves You’, The Beatles and No.1 ‘Relax’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood’.

2000 (Oct 5) - Beatles Authorized Biography On Sale

Beatles fans across the world rushed out to buy copies of ‘The Beatles Anthology’, the Fab Four’s autobiography.  Stores in Japan and Britain opened at midnight to satisfy demand for the book, the first written by the band members. Publishers said the 350,000-word volume, at a cost of £35, had already attracted more than 1.5m orders worldwide.

2011 (Oct 5) - Scorsese's George Harrison Documentary Debuts

The Martin Scorsese documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World premieres on HBO. Ringo Starr says in the film: “He had the bag of love-beads personality and the bag of anger.”

1964 (Oct 6) - In Studio Recording 'Eight Days A Week'

The Beatles spent the afternoon recording ‘Eight Days A Week’ at Abbey Road studios in London. Late evening was spent at The Ad Lib Club, London, partying with The Ronettes and Mick Jagger.
