1963 (Sep 16) - 'She Loves You' Released by Swan in the US

‘She Loves You’ by The Beatles was released by Swan Records in the US. Although the song was currently No.1 in the UK, ‘She Loves You’ was ignored in the US until 1964 when it would reach the top of the US Pop chart.

1963 (Sep 16) - Holiday Time For The Band

The entire band is on holiday. John & Cynthia head to Paris. George heads to the USA to see his sister in Illinois. Paul, Jane Asher, Ringo and Maureen head to Greece.

1965 (Sep 16) - 'Eight Days A Week' Certified Gold

The Beatles’ “Eight Days a Week” is certified gold.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1967 (Sep 16) - 'Your Mother Should Know' Re-recorded

Working at Abbey Road studios in London The Beatles recorded 11 takes of ‘Your Mother Should Know’, giving the song a stronger beat, but this version of the song was discarded in favour of the original recording.

1970 (Sep 16) - Zeppelin Knocks Off The Beatles

After eight straight years, The Beatles are finally knocked from their perch as England’s top act in the Melody Maker fan poll by Led Zeppelin.

1998 (Sep 16) - Auction at Sotheby's

At a Sotheby’s auction a notebook belonging to former Beatles roadie Mal Evans containing the lyrics to ‘Hey Jude’ sold for £111,500, a two-tone denim jacket belonging to John Lennon went for £9,200 and the Union Jack dress worn by Spice Girl Ginger Spice sold for £41,320.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.
