2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1964 (Jan 25) - 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' is Beatles' First US #1


The Beatles score their first No.1 in the US when ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ reaches the top of the Cash Box Magazine music chart.  The Fab Four would eventually rack up 25 No.1’s in America.

1965 (Jan 25) - Beatles on Vacation


John & Cynthia join George Martin and his future wife in St Moritz;  George & Patti are in Europe;  Paul and Jane visit Tunisia.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1967 (Jan 25) - Last Minute Remix of 'Penny Lane'


The Beatles, at the last minuted, remixed ‘Penny Lane’ before the pressing of their next double A sided single ‘Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane’.   Both songs had originally intended for the forthcoming album ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.

1968 (Jan 25) - The Beatles Film Their 'Yellow Submarine' Cameo


Their appearance is inserted at the end of ‘Yellow Submarine’

1984 (Jan 25) - Yoko Donates to Strawberry Fields


Yoko Ono donates £250,000 ($425,000) to Liverpool old people’s home Strawberry Fields.

2011 (Jan 25) - First Masters Degree in 'The Beatles' Awarded


Canadian singer Mary-Lu Zahalan-Kennedy becomes the first person in the world to graduate with a Masters degree in The Beatles.  She was one of the first students to sign up for the course on the Fab Four when it launched at Liverpool Hope University in March 2009.  The ground-breaking course looked at the studio sound and composition of The Beatles and how Liverpool helped to shape their music as well as examining the significance of the music of The Beatles and their impact on Western culture.
