1971 (Oct 1) - 'Imagine' Album Certified Gold

John Lennon’s album ‘Imagine’ is certified gold.

1982 (Oct 1) - Sony Introduces Digital CD Player

In Tokyo, Sony introduces the world’s first digital compact-disc player. It sells for about $650.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2015 (Oct 1) - Lost Cavern Club Recorded Tape Found

An original tape of The Beatles performing at The Cavern Club in Liverpool in 1962 was found after 50 years languishing in a desk drawer. It featured the Fab Four playing ‘Some Other Guy’ in September 1962, four weeks before their debut single came out. It was recorded after the group were filmed for Granada TV’s Know The North, but was never broadcast.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1967 (Oct 2) - In Studio for 'Hello Goodbye'

The Beatles begin recording “Hello Goodbye.”

1980 (Oct 2) - Beatles Albums Burned as 'Satanic'

Members of the First Assembly Church of God in Ankeny, Iowa, burn various books and albums they deem Satanic in influence and that encourage “pre-marital sex, homosexuality and immorality.” Albums set ablaze include the Woodstock soundtrack and elections from Peter Frampton and The Beatles.

1998 (Oct 2) - Paul Does Anonymous Q&A

Paul McCartney does an anonymous Q&A on the official site of his ambient duo ‘The Fireman’ to promote their new album, Rushes.

2001 (Oct 2) - John Lennon Tribute at Radio City Music Hall

Actor Kevin Spacey hosted Come Together: A Night for John Lennon’s Words and Music at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Performers include, Alanis Morissette, Moby, Stone Temple Pilots and the Dave Mathews Band. The evening was closed with those present singing ‘Give Peace A Chance’.
