New York’s Cooper-Hewitt museum fetches a record $2,299,000 for John Lennon’s “Roller,” a 1965 Rolls Royce Phantom V painted groovy psychedelic colors by Apple associates The Fool.

1997 (Jun 28) - George Harrison Undergoes Cancer Operation

George Harrison has an operation to remove a cancerous growth from his neck.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (Jun 29) - Del Shannon's 'From Me To You' Enters the Hot 100

Del Shannon’s cover of The Beatles’ “From Me to You” enters the Hot 100 at #96, becoming the first Lennon-McCartney composition to chart in America. Shannon’s version peaks at #77; in the UK the Beatles original hits #1 in May.

1964 (Jun 29) - The Beatles Play Two Shows in Brisbane

Touring Australia The Beatles played two shows at the Festival Hall, Brisbane. Over 8,000 fans had waited until after midnight to greet the group as they landed at Brisbane Airport.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1995 (Jun 29) - Pizza Hut Debuts Commercial with Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr’s first-ever TV commercial, for Pizza Hut, debuts in the US, as does a similar spot by the newly re-formed Monkees.

1998 (Jun 29) - George Announces Cancer Treatment

George Harrison announces that he is undergoing chemotherapy for throat cancer, with assurances that, “I’m not going to die on you folks just yet.” He succumbs to the disease three years later.
