1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1969 (Jan 30) - The Famous 'Rooftop Concert' From The Apple Building

The Beatles with Billy Preston, played their lunchtime rooftop gig on top of the Apple building on Savile Row, London. Lasting for just over 40 minutes it was the last time The Beatles performed live. The played ‘Get Back’, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘The One After 909’ and ‘Dig A Pony’. Traffic was brought to a standstill as crowds of people gathered below and watched from windows in nearby buildings. John Lennon ended the performance by saying “I’d like to say ‘Thank you’ on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.”

1970 (Jan 30) - Rolling Stone Interview With John is Published

Rolling Stone publishes an interview with John Lennon and their conclusion is that the Beatles are splitting.

1972 (Jan 30) - Paul McCartney Writes/Records 'Give Ireland Back To The Irish'

Paul McCartney wrote and recorded his protest song ‘Give Ireland Back To The Irish’ within 24 hours of Bloody Sunday, when 13 Catholics were killed by British paratroopers.

1982 (Jan 30) - Paul Picks His Island Songs on 'Desert Island Discs'

Paul McCartney guested on BBC radios Desert Island Discs his selections include, Elvis Presley’s ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, Chuck Berry’s ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’, John Lennon’s ‘Beautiful Boy ‘and Little Richard’s ‘Tutti Frutti’.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1967 (Jan 31) - The Next Two Singles Are Decided

EMI pressures Brian Epstein for two new Beatle releases. After a meeting with George Martin, the producer turns over Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever.

1967 (Jan 31) -Beatles Continue Filming 'Strawberry Fields Forever' Video

The Beatles spent a second day at Knole Park, Sevenoaks, Kent, England to complete filming for the ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ promotional video. The film was shot in colour, for the benefit of the US market, since UK television was still broadcasting only in black and white. Taking time out from filming John Lennon bought a 1843 poster from an antiques shop in Surrey which provided him with most the lyrics for The Beatles song ‘Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite’.
