2002 (Nov 29) - 'Secret Paintings' by Paul McCartney Sold

Three paintings by Sir Paul McCartney were bought for just £35 each at the Secrets Postcard Sale at London’s Royal College of Art. Members of the public gambled on whether they were buying works by celebrity artists at a fraction of their value, as a picture’s creator was only made known after it has sold.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1962 (Nov 30) - First 'Favorite Group' Designation for The Beatles

For the first time, The Beatles make the “favourite group” list in the New Musical Express’ reader’s poll.

1963 (Nov 30) - 'With The Beatles' Becomes First Million Seller in the UK

The Beatles second album With The Beatles became the first million selling album by a group in the UK. The album stayed at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, displacing Please Please Me, so that The Beatles occupied the top spot for 51 consecutive weeks.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?


One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’.  It topped at No.3 in the UK.  The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

2001 (Nov 30) - Paul Wins 'Top of the Pops' Hall of Fame Honor

The first Top Of The Pops UK Awards were held in Manchester, with categories voted by viewers of the BBC show. Winners included: Best pop act: Westlife, Best R&B Act: Destiny’s Child, Best Rock Act: U2, Best Dance Act: Fatboy Slim, Best Newcomer: Nelly Furtado, Best Single: Kylie Minogue, ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, Best Album: Travis, ‘The Invisible Band’, Artist on top of the world: Jennifer Lopez, Hall of Fame Award went to Paul McCartney.

2002 (Nov 30) - Details of George's Will Released

High Court probate records showed that George Harrison left his fortune of £99m in a trust to his wife Olivia and his son Dhani, depriving the taxman of £40m. His English mansion near Henley-on-Thames was said to be worth £15m.
