1965 (May 3) - Beatles Play With Tanks for Help!

The Beatles spent the day filming for their forthcoming film Help!, on Salisbury Plain, England, with the British Army’s Third Tank Division.

1976 (May 3) - 'Wings Over America' Tour Begins in Ft Worth

Paul McCartney made his first concert appearance in America in almost ten years when Wings kicked off their 31-date ‘Wings Over America’ tour at the Tarrant County Convention Center, Fort Worth, Texas.

1977 (May 3) - 'The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl' Released

The Beatles release ‘The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2012 (May 3) - Paul & Nancy Narrowly Avoid Helicopter Crash

Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shavell narrowly avoided a potential deadly helicopter crash when their pilot became disoriented during a flight in bad weather and missed some trees by just two feet. Flying home to their estate in East Sussex, England after a day in London, the McCartney’s were not aware of how close they came to crashing at the time. The UK’s Department of Transport launched an investigation into the incident the following November.

1968 (May 4) - Mary Hopkins Wins on 'Opportunity Knocks'

Mary Hopkin won her heat on the ITV talent show ‘Opportunity Knocks’. She later signed with The Beatles owned Apple Records, Paul McCartney produced her UK No.1 single ‘Those Were The Days’, which also made No. 2 in the US. Hopkin later married record producer Tony Visconti.

1969 (May 4) - John Buys a New Home

John buys a new home, Tittenhurst Park, in Sunninghill, Berkshire.

1969 (May 4) - Ringo Hosts a Wrap Party

Ringo hosts a wrap party for ‘The Magic Christian’ at a London club. Paul and Linda, and John and Yoko attend.

1963 (May 5) - Decca Records Scouts The Rolling Stones

On a recommendation by George Harrison Dick Rowe Head of A&R at Decca records, (and the man who turned down The Beatles) went to see The Rolling Stones play at Crawdaddy Club, London. The band were signed to the label within a week.
