1966 (Feb 26) - 'Rubber Soul' #1 in the US

The Beatles’ ‘Rubber Soul’ becomes the seventh album by the band to go #1 in America.

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?


One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’.  It topped at No.3 in the UK.  The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

US album release of ‘Hey Jude’ on Capitol.

1971 (Feb 26) - Max Martin Born (Who?)

Max Martin born, Swedish music producer and songwriter. He is the songwiter with the third most No. 1 singles on the charts, behind only Paul McCartney (32) and John Lennon (26). Martin has produced hits for the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding and Pink. In addition he has written or co-written 22 Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hits, most of which he has also produced or co-produced, including Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Maroon 5’s ‘One More Night’, Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ and The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’.

1987 (Feb 26) - 'The White Album' is First Beatles CD Release

The Beatles’ (aka The White Album) becomes the first Beatles album to be released in the new CD format.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2009 (Feb 26) - Unheard Version of 'Revolution 1' Leaked

A 10-minute version of The Beatles ‘Revolution 1’, taped by Yoko, was leaked onto the internet, giving fans a never-before-heard listen of what The White Albumsessions must have been like. Only two copies of the take were made when the song was completed on June 4th, 1968. One copy left the studio with Lennon that day and the other remained behind.

2015 (Feb 26) - Paul's Childhood Home Sells

The childhood home of former Beatle Paul McCartney sold for £150,000 ($231,000) at an auction in Liverpool. McCartney moved into the house, in Western Avenue, Speke, aged four with his parents Jim and Mary in 1947, and lived in the three-bedroom house for six years.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1964 (Feb 27) - Former Cavern Club Employee Cilla Black is #1

21 year-old former hairdresser and cloakroom attendant at The Cavern Club, Cilla Black was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart.’ Written by Bacharach and David it was Black’s first UK No.1. Also this week’s UK Top Ten was the first ever to feature only UK acts.
