2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Feb 8) - Beatles Audition Tapes Converted to Acetates

The Beatles DECCA audition tapes are made into acetates at HMV’s shop on London’s Oxford Street. That leads to the Beatles meeting Sid Coleman, head of EMI publishing. He encourages Brian Epstein to meet with George Martin.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1964 (Feb 8) - Beatles Rehearse for 'The Ed Sullivan Show'

Beatles rehearse for ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’. George is nursing a sore throat and is absent.

1964 (Feb 8) - Beatles Sight See on their First Day in New York

On their first full day in New York, The Beatles (minus George who had a sore throat), went for a photo-opportunity walk around Central Park. Over 400 girl fans followed The Beatles and extra police were called in to control them. Later in the day The Ronettes interviewed The Beatles for radio.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1968 (Feb 8) - Spike Milligan in Studio; 'Across The Universe' Sessions

Comedian Spike Milligan is in studio with The Beatles. (He had previously been produced by George Martin) He watches the recording of ‘Across The Universe’ and the band grants him permission to use the song on a World Wildlife Charity album he is involved with.

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?

One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’. It topped at No.3 in the UK. The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

1972 (Feb 8) - The Beatles' Official Fan Club Disbands

The Beatles’ official fan club disbands.

1983 (Feb 8) - Paul Wins at 2nd Annual Brit Awards

Winners at the second annual Brit Awards held in London included Paul McCartney who won Best British Male Solo Artist, Kim Wilde won Best British Female Solo Artist, Dire Straits won British Group, British Breakthrough Act went to Yazoo, International Act was Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Best Selling Single Dexy’s Midnight Runners “Come On Eileen” and the Life Achievement Award went to Pete Townshend.
