1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (Jul 1) - 'She Loves You'/'I'll Get You' Recorded

The Beatles recorded their next single ‘She Loves You’ / ‘I’ll Get You’, at EMI Studios, London, completing the two songs in less than four hours. Released in August this year, ‘She Loves You’ went on to become The Beatles’ first million-selling single.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1966 (Jul 1) - The Beatles Play Japan

The Beatles play the Budokan Hall in Tokyo for the first of two nights.

1967 (Jul 1) - Sgt Pepper Starts 15 Week #1 Run in US

The Beatles started a 15 week run at No.1 on the US album chart with Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the group’s 10th US No.1 album. Recorded over a 129-day period beginning in December 1966, the album widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, includes songs such as ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ and ‘A Day in the Life’.

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?


One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’.  It topped at No.3 in the UK.  The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

1968 (Jul 1) - John Hosts Art Exhibition

In the evening, John and Yoko attend the opening of his first solo art exhibition.

1969 (Jul 1) - John and Family Involved in Car Accident

John Lennon, Yoko Ono and family were involved in a car accident in Golspie, Scotland. Both John and Yoko needed hospital treatment. John required 17 facial stitches, Yoko 14. Lennon later had the car crushed into a cube and exhibited it on his lawn at Tittenhurst Park.

1975 (Jul 1) - Ringo & Maureen Are Divorced

Ringo Starr divorces his first wife, Maureen.
