1971 (Sep 9) - 'Imagine' Released in the US

John Lennon releases Imagine in the US.

1975 (Sep 9) - 'Wings Over America' Tour Begins

Paul McCartney and Wings begin their historic 13-month world tour. US performances will be recorded as the double LP Wings Over America. The group plays to over two million fans total during the course of the tour.

2005 (Sep 9) - Liverpool Council Confirms Ringo Birthplace Demolition

Liverpool City Council confirmed it was to demolish Ringo Starr’s birthplace because it had “no historical significance.” The house in Dingle, was one of 460 properties to be demolished for a regeneration project. The council said Madryn Street had no significance because Ringo had spent only three months of his life there.

1939 (Sep 10) - Cynthia Lennon Born

Cynthia Lennon first wife of John Lennon, the couple divorced on 8th November 1968. She died at her home in Spain on 1st April 2015 following a short battle with cancer.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (Sep 10) - Chance Meeting With The Stones

During a chance meeting between The Rolling Stones at Studio 51 Jazz Club in London with Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the two played the Stones a partly finished song ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ which the Stones later record.

1963 (Sep 10) - Daily Mirror Features The Beatles

The Daily Mirror published a two-page article about The Beatles. Written by Donald Zec, the feature is entitled ‘Four Frenzied Little Lord Fauntleroys Who Are Earning 5,000 Pounds A Week’ Zec, who had attended a Beatles concert in Luton on Sept. 6 and then invited them to his home to complete the interview, referred to The Beatles’ haircuts as ‘A stone-age hair style’. The article provided a major boost to their career.

1963 (Sep 10) - John and Paul Attend Stones Rehearsal

While traveling in London, John Lennon and Paul McCartney encounter Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who worked as a promoter for The Beatles earlier in the year. Oldham invites them to The Stones rehearsal, where Lennon and McCartney complete a song they were working on, “I Wanna Be Your Man,” and give it to The Stones, which they use as their second UK single.

1966 (Sep 10) - Revolver #1 in the States

The Beatles started a six-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with Revolver the group’s ninth US chart topper. The title ‘ Revolver ‘, like Rubber Soul before it, is a pun, referring both to a kind of handgun as well as the “revolving” motion of the record as it is played on a turntable.

1968 (Sep 10) - 'Hey Jude' at #1 in the UK

The Beatles were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Hey Jude’, the group’s 15th UK No.1 and the longest chart topper ever at seven minutes and ten seconds. The single was the first release on the group’s Apple records label.
