January 22

1963 (Jan 22) - Beatles on Three Different Radio Shows


The Beatles appeared on three UK radio programs.   First, they recorded a session for the show Pop Inn at the BBC Paris studio (in London), they then went to the Playhouse Theatre to tape a radio appearance on Saturday Club, recording five songs.  Then the Beatles went back to the BBC Paris studio to record an appearance on The Talent Spot recording ‘Please Please Me’, ‘Ask Me Why’ and ‘Some Other Guy’  before a live audience.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1977 (Jan 22) - 'Wings Over America' #1 in the US


Paul McCartney went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Wings Over America’,  Paul McCartney’s sixth US No.1 after The Beatles.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1969 (Jan 23) - Beatles Record Ten Takes of 'Get Back'


Working at Apple studios, The Beatles (with Billy Preston on keyboards) record ten takes of ‘Get Back’.

1971 (Jan 23) - 'My Sweet Lord' Becomes First 'Solo Beatle' #1


George Harrison became the first solo Beatle to have a No.1 when ‘ ‘My Sweet Lord’ went to the top of the UK single charts.  The song from his ‘All Things Must Pass’ album stayed at No.1 for five weeks.  The track returned to the top of the UK charts in 2002, following his death.

January 24

1958 (Jan 24) - Quarrymen Perform at the Cavern Club


The Quarry Men performed at The Cavern Club in Liverpool.  It was three years later when they appeared again at the Cavern but under their new name ‘The Beatles’.
