2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1947 (Aug 27) - Barbara Bach Born

Barbara Bach (Mrs. Ringo Starr) is born Barbara Ann Goldbach in Queens, New York City. She becomes an actress and Bond girl and meets Ringo on the set of the movie ‘Caveman.’

1965 (Aug 27) - Beatles Meet Elvis

On the last day of a five-day break from their North American tour, The Beatles attended a recording session for The Byrds. Later that afternoon, The Beatles met Elvis Presley at his mansion in Beverly Hills. It was an awkward meeting, leaving The Beatles with the impression that Presley’s personality was decidedly “unmagnetic”. John Lennon remarked soon after, ‘Where’s Elvis’ It was like meeting Engelbert Humperdinck.’

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1967 (Aug 27) - Brian Epstein Dies

British music entrepreneur and the manager of The Beatles, Brian Epstein was found dead, locked in a bedroom at his London home. A coroner’s inquest concluded that Epstein died from an overdose of the sleeping pill Carbitrol. He also managed several other artists including Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Cilla Black and The Remo Four. The first contract between The Beatles and Epstein was auctioned in London in 2008, and was sold for £240,000.

1968 - 'White Album' is #1 in the US

It was the group’s 12th US #1 album. The double album has no graphics or text.

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?


One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’.  It topped at No.3 in the UK.  The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

1992 (Aug 27) - 'A Day In The Life' Lyrics Auctioned

John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to The Beatles song ‘A Day In The Life’ from Sgt. Pepper sold in an auction at Sotheby’s London for $100,000 (£56,600). The lyrics were put up for sale again in March 2006 by Bonhams in New York. Sealed bids were opened on 7 March 2006 and offers started at about $2 million. The lyric sheet was auctioned again by Sotheby’s in June 2010 when it was purchased by an anonymous American buyer who paid $1,200,000 (£810,000).

1964 (Aug 28) - Beatles Smoke Pot For The First Time

The Beatles smoke pot for the first time, which is supplied by Bob Dylan, who joins the band after one of their concerts in New York state. Dylan is surprised they haven’t tried it before, as he thought they sang “I get high” in their song “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” when it was really “I can’t hide.”
