1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?


One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’.  It topped at No.3 in the UK.  The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

1969 (May 26) - John & Yoko Begin 8 Day 'Bed In'

John Lennon and Yoko Ono began an eight-day ‘bed in’, in room 1742 of The Hotel La Reine Elizabeth, Montreal, Canada, to promote world peace. They recorded ‘Give Peace a Chance’ in the hotel room (Petula Clark can be heard on the chorus). The song was credited to Lennon & McCartney, even though Paul had nothing to do with the record.

1973 (May 26) - 'The Beatles 1967-1970' #1

The Beatles ‘The Beatles 1967-1970’ goes to #1.

1977 (May 26) - Beatlemania! Opens

Beatlemania!, a Broadway tribute to the music of The Beatles opens at the Winter Garden Theater.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2008 (May 26) - Yale Makes Paul a 'Doctor'

Yale University awards Paul McCartney an honorary Doctorate of Music.

1957 (May 27) - Buddy Holly Releases 'That'll Be The Day'

Buddy Holly and the Crickets released ‘That’ll Be The Day’ which became a UK No.1 and US No.3 hit. It was the first song to be recorded by The Quarrymen, the skiffle group that subsequently became The Beatles.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (May 27) - 'From Me To You/Thank You Girl' US Release

‘From Me to You’ and ‘Thank You Girl’ are released in the US on Vee Jay.

1964 (May 27) - Paul and Ringo Return From Holiday

Paul, Ringo, Jane Asher and Maureen return from the Caribbean.
