1967 (Oct 4) - John & George on David Frost

George Harrison and John Lennon appear on David Frost’s TV show, where they take the “pro” side in a debate over Transcendental Meditation. On the panel is the author Juan Mascaro, who later sends Harrison a book containing a translation of Chapter 47 of Tao Te Ching, which he uses as the lyric for the song “The Inner Light.”

1968 (Jan 20) - 'Judy In Disguise' is #1. Inspired by 'Lucy In The Sky'?

One Hit Wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Judy In Disguise, (With Glasses)’. It topped at No.3 in the UK. The song was allegedly inspired by The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky’.

1968 (Oct 4) - The Beatles Record 'Martha My Dear'

The Beatles record ‘Martha My Dear’. Martha is the name of Paul McCartney’s old English sheepdog.

1969 (Oct 4) - 'Abbey Road' #1 in Britain

The Beatles Abbey Road album went to No.1 on the UK chart. The final studio recordings from the group supposedly contained clues adding to the ‘Paul Is Dead’ phenomenon: Paul is barefoot and the car number plate ‘LMW 281F’ supposedly referred to the fact that McCartney would be 28 years old if he was still alive. ‘LMW’ was said to stand for ‘Linda McCartney Weeps.’ And the four Beatles, represent; the priest (John, dressed in white), the Undertaker (Ringo in a black suit), the Corpse (Paul, in a suit but barefoot), and the Gravedigger (George, in jeans and a denim work shirt).

1974 (Oct 4) - 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' UK Release

‘Whatever Gets You Through The Night’ is released in the UK.

1988 (Oct 4) - Ringo Enters Rehab

Determined to finally clean his system of the alcohol and drugs he’s been abusing for years, Ringo Starr, along with wife Barbara Bach, flies to Tucson, Arizona, to enter the Sierra Tucson Rehabilitation Clinic. He stays six weeks.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

2019 (Oct 4) - 'Abbey Road' Returns to #1 in Britain

The Beatles’ Abbey Road returned to No.1 in the UK, 50 years after it first topped the album charts after the release of an expanded anniversary edition. The feat also sees the album set a record – the gap of 49 years and 252 days since its initial chart-topping run ended in early 1970 is the longest gap before returning to No.1.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1962 (Oct 5) - 'Love Me Do' Released in Britain

The Beatles debut single ‘Love Me Do’ was released in the UK. It spent 26 week’s on the chart peaking at No.17. Beatles producer George Martin has said when ‘Love Me Do’ was released, it was the day the world changed. It is also believed that the first time a Beatles record is played on the radio, it is by Radio Luxembourg. RL was owned by EMI.
