1963 (Jun 29) - Del Shannon's 'From Me To You' Enters the Hot 100

Del Shannon’s cover of The Beatles’ “From Me to You” enters the Hot 100 at #96, becoming the first Lennon-McCartney composition to chart in America. Shannon’s version peaks at #77; in the UK the Beatles original hits #1 in May.

1964 (Jun 29) - The Beatles Play Two Shows in Brisbane

Touring Australia The Beatles played two shows at the Festival Hall, Brisbane. Over 8,000 fans had waited until after midnight to greet the group as they landed at Brisbane Airport.

1995 (Jun 29) - Pizza Hut Debuts Commercial with Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr’s first-ever TV commercial, for Pizza Hut, debuts in the US, as does a similar spot by the newly re-formed Monkees.

1998 (Jun 29) - George Announces Cancer Treatment

George Harrison announces that he is undergoing chemotherapy for throat cancer, with assurances that, “I’m not going to die on you folks just yet.” He succumbs to the disease three years later.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1966 (Jun 30) - First of Three Concerts at Nippon Budokan Hall

The Beatles played the first of three concerts at the Nippon Budokan Hall, Japan. The concert was filmed with The Beatles wearing black suits. The following day’s first performance was also filmed; with The Beatles wearing white suits. There was a strict police presence with 3,000 police observing each concert played in front of 10,000 fans.

1973 (Jun 30) - George Knocks Paul From US #1 Spot

George Harrison knocked Paul McCartney from the top of the US singles chart with ‘Give Me Love, Give Me Peace On Earth’. His second US No.1, a No.8 hit in the UK was the opening track on his 1973 album Living in the Material World.

1963 (Jul 1) - 'She Loves You'/'I'll Get You' Recorded

The Beatles recorded their next single ‘She Loves You’ / ‘I’ll Get You’, at EMI Studios, London, completing the two songs in less than four hours. Released in August this year, ‘She Loves You’ went on to become The Beatles’ first million-selling single.

1966 (Jul 1) - The Beatles Play Japan

The Beatles play the Budokan Hall in Tokyo for the first of two nights.
