1964 (Jul 12) - George Crashes on Way To Concert

George Harrison crashes his Jaguar on New Kings Road in London heading to a Beatles concert in Brighton, suffering minor injuries. A few fans gather wreckage as souvenirs.

1997 (Jul 12) - George Blasts Modern Music

The French magazine Le Figaro publishes an interview with George Harrison where he blasts modern music, taking aim at U2 and the Spice Girls.

2000 (Jul 12) - John Lennon Statue Unveiled in Trafalgar Square

A statue erected in the memory of John Lennon was unveiled in London’s Trafalgar Square. The sculpture featured a revolver with a knotted barrel created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reutersward.

2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1965 (Jul 13) - Paul McCartney Receives Ivor Novello Awards

Paul McCartney was presented with five Ivor Novello Awards at a lunch party at The Savoy, London. John Lennon refused to attend; Paul was 40 minutes late after he had forgotten about the engagement.

1969 (Jul 13) - US Stations Ban 'The Ballad of John and Yoko'

Over 100 US radio stations banned The Beatles new single ‘The Ballad Of John and Yoko’ due to the line ‘Christ, you know it ain’t easy’, calling it offensive.

1985 (Jul 13) - Paul Appears At 'Live Aid'

At 12.01 Status Quo started the Live Aid extravaganza, held between Wembley Stadium, London and The JFK Stadium, Philadelphia. The cream of the world’s biggest rock stars took part in the worldwide event, raising over £40million. TV pictures beamed to over 1.5bn people in 160 countries made it the biggest live broadcast ever known. Artists who appeared included Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, The Who, U2, David Bowie and Mick Jagger, Queen, Tina Turner, The Cars, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bryan Adams, Hall and Oates, Lionel Richie and Led Zeppelin.

1999 (Jul 13) - Paul McCartney Paintings on Display

Paul McCartney displayed 73 paintings at the Kunstforum Lyz gallery in the German town of Siegen. McCartney had been painting for the past 16 years (since he turned 40).
