2008 (Feb 20) - Beatles' Autographed Rolling Stones Album Auctioned

A 1976 Rolling Stones album bought for £2 at a car boot sale sold for £4,000 at an auction. The ‘Black and Blue’ LP was signed by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and George Harrison as well as members of the Rolling Stones. The seller obtained the album after haggling the cost down from £3.

1942 (Jun 4) - Capitol Records Founded

Glenn Wallichs launched Capitol Records in the US. The label became home to such artists as Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Glen Campbell, Steve Miller, Dr. Hook, Bob Seger, Tina Turner, Heart and countless others. Wallichs was the man who invented the art of record promotion by sending copies of new releases to disc jockeys.

1953 (Jun 4) - Wings Guitarist Jimmy McCulloch Born

Jimmy McCulloch (guitarist for Thunderclap Newman, lead guitarist, bassist for Wings) is born in Dumbarton, Scotland.

1962 (Jun 4) - Beatles Sign First EMI Contract

The Beatles sign their first record contract with EMI, though it’s merely to produce a series of demos. The band will have to pass its upcoming audition to get signed to make actual records.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (Jun 4) - First 'Pop Goes The Beatles' Airs

The first Pop Goes The Beatles program is aired on the BBC in the UK. The band plays a version of ‘Pop Goes The Weasel’ on the show.

1964 (Jun 4) - Beatles Record 'Slow Down'

1964 (Jun 4) - The Beatles Play Copenhagen

The Beatles played two performances at the KB Hallen, Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, Denmark on the first date of a 27-day world tour. Drummer Jimmy Nicol replaced Ringo Starr who was ill in hospital.

1965 (Jun 4) - EP 'Beatles For Sale 2'

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.
