April 27

1970 (Apr 27) - Lennon Lithographs Ruled OK for Viewing

John Lennon’s explicit ‘Bag One’ lithographs are returned to the London Arts Gallery exhibition. A High Court judge has ruled them ‘unlikely to deprave or corrupt’.

1981 (Apr 27) - Ringo Marries Barbara

Ringo Starr married actress and one time ‘Bond girl’ Barbara Bach. The pair met while filming the movie, Caveman, with Dennis Quaid and Shelley Long. In attendance at the wedding were George Harrison and Paul McCartney.

1962 (Jun 6) - First Beatles Recordings at What Will Become 'Abbey Road'

The first Beatles recording session took place at EMI studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’ the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each.

1963 (Apr 28) - The Beatles Go On Holiday

Paul, George & Ringo go to Tenerife where they’ll stay for 12 days. John accompanies Brian Epstein to Spain.

1964 (Apr 28) - 'Around The Beatles' TV Special Recorded

The Beatles recorded the TV special ‘Around The Beatles’ at Wembley studios England. As well as performing songs they played Act V Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ with John playing the female role of Thisbe, Paul as Pyramus, George as Moonshine and Ringo as Lion. Paul later named his cat Thisbe.

1965 (Apr 28) - Grammy For 'A Hard Days Night'

Each member gets a Grammy from Peter Sellers for ‘A Hard Days Night’ They had won for ‘Best Original Score Written For A Motion Picture or Television Show’.

1966 (Apr 28) - Studio Work on 'Eleanor Rigby'

First day’s work (of two) on Eleanor Rigby.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1975 (Apr 28) - Two Beatles on NBC

Two ex-Beatles appear on NBC. Ringo performs ‘No No Song’ on the Smothers Brothers Show. John Lennon guests on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.’

1931 (Apr 29) - Beatle Influencer Lonnie Donegan Born

Lonnie Donegan, singer who launched the skiffle craze. He had a 1960 UK No.1 single with ‘My Old Man’s A Dustman’, plus over 30 other UK Top 40 singles. He died on November 3rd 2002.
