1970 (Feb 23) - Ringo on Laugh In

Ringo Starr guests on Laugh In, making his first solo TV appearance.

2010 (Feb 23) - Abbey Road Studios Building Protected as Historical

London’s Abbey Road studios was made a listed building, protecting it from plans to radically alter it. Culture Minister Margaret Hodge listed the studios on the advice of English Heritage saying it had “produced some of the very best music in the world”. The Beatles used Abbey Road for 90% of their recordings. The studio was origanally named EMI Studios, they changed the name to Abbey Road Studios in 1970 because of The Beatles album.

1965 (Feb 24) - Help! First Full Day of Filming

The first full day of filming took place for The Beatles movie Help!, ‘ with the group riding bicycles on location.

1966 (Feb 18) - Brian Wilson Finishes 'Good Vibrations'

Beach Boy Brian Wilson finished recording the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third US number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

1967 (Feb 24) - Beatles Record 'Lovely Rita'

The Beatles record ‘Lovely Rita’.

1969 (Feb 24) - NEMS Control Changes

The Beatles are told that Brian Epstein’s NEMS Enterprises has been taken over by a merchant bank. Members of the band are not happy with that information.

1982 (Feb 24) - 'Double Fantasy' Album of the Year

Winners at the Grammy Awards included John & Yoko Album of the year with ‘Double Fantasy.

1943 (Feb 25) - George Harrison Born

George Harrison is born.  Guitarist and vocalist with The Beatles  The all-time bestselling album in the UK is The Beatles’ ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, with over 4.5 million copies sold.  Harrison wrote the 1969 US No.1 & UK No.4 Beatles single ‘Something’.  As a solo artist he had the 1971 US No.1 album ‘All Things Must Pass’ and the 1970 worldwide No.1 single ‘My Sweet Lord’.  He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.  Harrison died of cancer on November 29th 2001.

1956 (Feb 25) - Elvis has First National Hit; Later Covered by The Beatles

Elvis Presley had his first national hit when ‘I Forgot To Remember To Forget’ went to No.1 on the Billboard Country & Western chart. The Beatles covered this song once for the BBC radio show, From Us To You, on 1 May 1964, with George Harrison on lead vocals.

1963 (Feb 25) - 'Please Please Me' First Release

The Beatles release ‘Please Please Me’ in America. The song gets little attention, but one year later becomes a big hit when Beatlemania strikes and the song is re-released.
